What am about to tell you is the truth and nothing but the truth so digest extensively.
Neurologists have shown in clinical tests that a person can visualize in their mind’s eye completing a physical motor skill and can mentally rehearse the skill with significant effect on actually performing the skill physically.
Now, that's big English right? Let me break it down:
The mind is controlled by the brain, and lies in between the soul, spirit and body. The mind is the seat for higher mental function and creativity. The hardest person to help in this life is not a crippled man or blind man but a mentally-deranged man.
How does this relate to music?
Problem of the mind is the reason we have a lot of half-baked and lazy keyboardists. It's either their mind is preoccupied with something else, or they just think their instrument is for the fun of it.
For you to be a professional keyboardist, your mind must be committed to music, and improving yourself daily and as often.
This group for instance can only do you at most 50%. You must get yourself to hit on that chair and make your fingers pain you.
You must get your mind to work. The greatest keyboardist are the ones who say, "I shall rhearse four hours today" and get to work.
For me, learning the keyboard was tough because my *** never wanted me to. I would sneak out and go to learn. I still remember the nights I got the beating of my life for going to play in a program. I was just in secondary school. I joined crews secretly. I got myself into the commitment of rehearsing four hours daily to learn to play well on all keys. There were days I did three hours but I didn't stop. But today, I can't find those who are really passionate anymore.
The mind is the seat of discipline. Discipline is not acting as convenient but as demanded. Your mind must get to structuring your time for your instrument.
Gospel light Network is a ministry God gave me and we do have our revival meetings where the Holy Spirit find Expression but we decided to extend the ministry to connecting Keyboardists and writers because we knew how hungry we were then improving ourselves.
One night I was walking down the streets looking for someone to teach me how to play the pentatonic and blues scale. I almost ran mad. I couldn't sleep. There was just this drive to get better.
It's going to be hard but trust me when you start rehearsing, people will see the difference in your play and you will receive accolades. Nothing in life comes easy.
I heard of a guy who played six hours almost everyday for a year, and today people can't even score his stuffs perfectly. Your hands can only be flexible when your mind is fixed to getting better.
Lastly for this part, practice often! Get access to your instrument! Learn new songs! Join a crew if possible! Pray!
